If I Didn’t Leave My Job Soon, I Was Sure I Would Die

It had gone on for months, thoughts of leaving my C.F.O. job at a successful, $250 million company. If I didn’t get out of there soon, I was sure I would die.

I loathed my job.

Are you stuck in a job like this? Perhaps you don’t quite loathe your job. Are you simply dispassionate about it? Are you living a life of quiet desperation?

I’m not going to tell you what to do. I’m going to tell you what I did and remind you that where there’s a will, there’s a way.

In my situation, I planned and schemed what to do.

I wanted to start my own company, but was afraid. As a single mom and sole breadwinner, my family depended on my salary.

And besides, I needed to raise money to start my own business. Lord knows, I had run projections seven ways to Sunday but knew there was a need for at least a quarter of a million dollars to start my business.

One morning while navigating daunting Los Angeles rush hour traffic, the truth finally hit me. I realized that I was full of shit and it wasn’t that I didn’t have the money (although I most certainly did not), but rather that I was afraid. Yep.
